Avoid indoor spaces as much as possible, particularly ones that aren\u2019t well ventilated.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cdc.gov\/handwashing\/when-how-handwashing.html\" target=\"_blank\">Wash your hands<\/a>\u00a0with soap and water for 20 seconds or use hand sanitizer with at least 60% alcohol.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h5 style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>Testing for COVID-19<\/strong><\/h5>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">If you have symptoms of COVID-19 and\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cdc.gov\/coronavirus\/2019-ncov\/testing\/diagnostic-testing.html\" target=\"_blank\">want to get tested<\/a>, the CDC suggests that you call your healthcare provider first. Some of these variant viruses spread more easily and quickly, which may lead to more cases of COVID-19.<\/strong>\u00a0An increase in the number of cases will put more strain on healthcare resources, which could lead to more hospitalizations, and potentially more deaths from COVID-19.<\/p>\n<ul class=\"list\" style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n<li><strong>United Kingdom (UK) \u2013<\/strong>\u00a0In the UK, a new variant of the virus that causes COVID-19 has been discovered. This variant spreads more easily and quickly than other variants.\u00a0<strong>In January 2021, experts in the UK reported that\u00a0<em>this variant may be associated with an increased risk of death compared to other variant viruses, but more studies are needed to confirm this finding<\/em><\/strong><em>.<\/em>\u00a0This variant has now been seen in numerous countries, including the United States and Canada.<\/li>\n<li><strong>South Africa \u2013\u00a0<\/strong>This virus variant seen in South Africa shares some mutations with the variant detected in the UK. COVID-19 cases caused by this variant of the virus have been reported in the U.S. at the end of January 2021.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Brazil<\/strong>\u00a0\u2013 This\u00a0 virus variant was first identified in travelers from Brazil, who were tested during routine screening at an airport in Japan, in early January 2021. This variant contains a set of additional mutations that may affect its ability to be recognized by antibodies. More study is needed. This variant was first detected in the U.S. at the end of January 2021.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Experts are working to learn more about these virus variants to better understand them.\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cdc.gov\/coronavirus\/2019-ncov\/transmission\/variant-cases.html\" target=\"_blank\">View a map<\/a>\u00a0of U.S. COVID-19 cases caused by virus variants.<\/p>\n<h5 style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>COVID-19 Vaccines<\/strong><\/h5>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>Even though COVID-19 vaccines are being developed more quickly than usual,<\/strong>\u00a0<strong>vaccine safety is still a top priority<\/strong>\u00a0<strong>in all phases of vaccine development (clinical trials), approval and post-approval monitoring. While steps are being streamlined or overlapped, none of them are being skipped.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>As of February 27, 2021, the FDA has given emergency use authorization* to three COVID-19 vaccines.\u00a0<\/strong><em>The best COVID-19 vaccine to get is the one that is offered to you.\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n<ul class=\"list\" style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n<li>Pfizer-BioNTech \u2013 A COVID-19 vaccine made using mRNA technology. Two doses are required.<\/li>\n<li>Moderna \u2013 A COVID-19 vaccine made using mRNA technology. Two doses are required.<\/li>\n<li>Johnson &amp; Johnson (Janssen) \u2013 A COVID-19 vaccine made using viral vector technology. One dose is required.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">(Before authorizing* and recommending for vaccines for emergency use in the U.S., both the FDA\u2019s Advisory Committee (VRBPAC) and the CDC\u2019s Advisory Committee (ACIP) have\u00a0<strong>carefully reviewed the clinical trials\u2019 data to make certain the vaccines are safe and effective<\/strong>.
